The New York Times has a pretty in depth article all about Moon rocks and moon geology today (is it called geology if it isn’t on the Earth? Luneology?). It is really rather fascinating how much information can be gathered from rocks that were taken from the moon almost 40 years ago. The fact that the moon doesn’t have things like plate tectonics and volcanism means that there are some really old rocks (try about 4.5 billion years old) that give scientists a lot of clues about our early solar system. Great stuff here.

Rain and Growing Mountains

Most of us understand that plate tectonics play a big part in the formation of mountains. We are also probably pretty aware of how weather can impact erosion in geological shaping. But who would have thought that rain might actually play a part in the growth of mountains? According to this Discovery News article, in some places in the world that is exactly what happens. This just goes to show how complex and strange geological activity really is. Fascinating.
