Biobigotry and the Life We Learn to Hate

I had never really considered that something like biobigotry existed until I read this New York Times article this morning.  Now I can’t get it out of my head.  I am thinking about how my mom used to chase the Blue Jays off the back porch with the claim that they were nasty and piggish birds.  It is strange how we apply some idea of morality on the natural world as if human ethics really come into play in nature.  Is the wolf cruel because it kills a calf to feed itself?  Of course not, yet we still tend to consider it that way.  Strange.
