Trees

As always I love any Time Magazine Slide Shows and the one entitled “In the Time of Trees” is quite wonderful.  For a long time I have found trees to be both utterly fascinating and yet truly bizarre.  They seem so common place that I think we often overlook this amazing life forms that create vast forests and lovely parks, whose fruits we eat, whose woods we build with.  A world without trees is not a world in my opinion.

To Kill Bacteria you Might Need to Make Them a Little More Lively First

Certain bacterias have a tendency to move into states of dormancy in which they seem to be more immune to antibiotics thus having the potential to come back and cause damage at a later date.  A new study described in this Scientific American article suggests that by keeping the bacteria awake antibiotics may be able to eradicate a much greater percentage of the nasty bugs.  of course I have to wonder how waking up a whole slew of bacteria makes the patient feel?

For Whom the Dogs Bark

Probably anybody who has spent any significant amount of time around dogs has wondered at some time or another just what they canines are trying to convey with there barking.  And who are they barking for anyways?  New research, as detailed in this Discovery News article, takes a closer look at the animal communication that goes on among mans’ best friends and reveals that there may be a lot more to barking than just a noisy pet.

Back At It

Okay, so I haven’t posted here for awhile.  My parents were visiting and I was trying to avoid computers while they were down.  But now they’ve headed home and so hopefully over the next couple of days I can find some good stuff to put up here.  I’ll see what I can do.
