Fix us better

A big area of interest in science and technology are ways in which both can lead to improvements in artificial limb and tissue replacement for wounded individuals.  This week Eric Bland, from Discovery News, wrote two interesting articles on research in the field of artificial tissue creation/replacement.  The first one deals with artificial muscles that can heal themselves and store extra energy.  The second article concerns hydrogel which could someday be used as artificial cartilage in joints.

The most distant object to be seen with the naked eye

According to NASA this object is a Gamma Ray Burst that is located 7.5 billion light years from Earth.  at such a vast distance it means that the massive burst occured in universal history before our planet had even formed.  For greater details on this discovery read NASA’s press release
